This is why.

Recently, (I won’t say who due to reasons and whatnot) a patron of mine had their account incorrectly marked as “fraud”, and the patron in question. Despite being in contact with support, had their account closed and all of the money they pledged refunded to “the cardholder”, the cardholder being them. And what about all the money that was refunded? Taken straight out of my account. I have never received any email from Patreon letting me know that 50 dollars would be taken away from me because of their fuck up. So what not? Well as it seems. Patreon is now gonna be directly using the money I receive from pledges directly to even out the account balance. Which means that until that balance is back at 0. I’m not seeing a cent from my Patrons.

This is complete and utter bullshit, since the patron in question has been in contact with me, and despite following Patreon’s policy, which states as follows:
“When a patron is suspected of fraudulent activity, their account is disabled and the funds from their pledges are returned to the cardholder if we do not hear back from them within 10 days of the notice.“

Here is the thing, the patron has been in contact with support, and has done so within 10 days. Despite that, in the middle of it all. Patreon went ahead and deleted their account, and now, me and a few other artists have to deal with a negative/smaller account balance. Not because of something we directly did, but what ultimately was a fuck up on Patreon’s part.

Oh and lets talk about support. I got in contact with support myself, and the answer I got was pretty much “oh sorry we didn’t let you know lol” because as it is right now. The only way to know if your patrons have recieved a “fraud” flag is if you go out of your own way, and check your patron list. There is no notification, no email. No nothing. If the patron didn’t directly contact me and let me know what was going on. I wouldn’t have found out what happened until I would expect a payout from Patreon on the 5th and got fuck all.

Oh and also, I asked support what would happen to the negative balance, and my response never even mentioned anything about it, and tried to focus on the lack of communication, and not the fact that they were making me pay for their mistake.

This is not ok.

I’m honestly considering on dropping Patreon all together. This is unacceptable, and after the whole attempted change to the way pledges were to work. I frankly don’t trust Patreon anymore. It is complete and utter shit.
